New Soundly: Finally Compatible with Human Beings

After watching our new film, you’ll notice that communication has become a huge challenge for most of Team Soundly.

Fortunately, Natural Language Search doesn’t have that problem. It lets you search for sounds the way you’d describe them to another person, without worrying about keywords or metadata. Under the hood is Soundly’s own advanced semantic search system, built to understand how sound designers think and talk about sound.

Like any responsible software company, we spent days searching for ridiculous things. Here are some favorites:

A spaceship passing overhead, heard from the ground
An awkward laugh during a job interview
A magical portal opening with a dark tone
That frustrated sigh when Soundly crashes for the third time today

We can’t wait to see what you throw at it, so please share your favorite Natural Language Search queries in the YouTube comments.

Natural Language Search is available now in the new Soundly, together with several major new features. Update today, explore what’s new below, and see how Natural Language Search changes the way sounds are found.

New Soundly Features
Natural Language Search
Search for sounds the way you describe them. Natural Language Search uses Soundly’s own advanced semantic search system, developed in-house and built specifically for sound search. We created it because existing semantic search systems weren’t good enough at understanding how sound designers describe sound. It works across Soundly Cloud and local libraries, and local files are analyzed on your machine and never uploaded.
After Effects Integration
Send sounds directly from Soundly to Adobe After Effects with the Soundly Connect panel. Find a sound, preview it, place it in your project, and keep your motion graphics workflow moving without leaving Soundly. It’s a faster, more direct way to move from sound search to scene building.
Find Similar from Anywhere
Start Find Similar searches from Finder, Windows Explorer, Wwise, FMOD Studio, or by dragging an audio file onto Soundly. Enable it from Soundly’s Settings.
Premiere Pro Improvements
The Premiere Pro panel includes several fixes and improvements. Existing users will be prompted to update the panel automatically.
Wwise Improvements
We have simplified the Wwise integration and removed several setup requirements. When updating existing SoundSFX objects, “Use Existing” preserves previously attached AudioSources, while “Replace Existing” swaps them for the new version.
Performance Improvements
This release speeds up file browsing, file loading, audio reversing, folder navigation, and local analysis for Find Similar and Natural Language Search.
Please see the news tab in the Soundly app for more details on all the exciting new features!
