Soundly News | We Freeze For Your SFX!

<!doctype html>

We Nearly Froze Our Butts Off,

but our Icelandic adventure was all worth it. Far away from noise pollution and management’s endless talk about “synergy,” we captured the raw sounds of nature at its finest, which you can see in our new film.

They say Iceland has 130 words for wind. While we can't pronounce a single one, we’re almost certain there's a special word for the kind of wind that howls through plane wrecks, like the one we recorded at Solheimasandur beach.

And if pronunciation is what you need, our Voice Designer characters — Gudrun and Gunnar — nails every tricky Icelandic word with ease.

Freezing our butts off is a small price to pay for SFX this good. See you again, Iceland! 🇮🇸🥶

Plane Wreck Winds
In 1973, the US Navy crashed a plane on the Solheimasandur beach in Iceland, and it's been there ever since. The plane wreck is a popular spot for photoshoots, but it also sounds fantastic when the strong Icelandic winds gust through. Hear the awesome rattling wind textures in this unique, windy pack! #planewreckwinds
Black Sand Beach
These are among the mightiest waves we've ever recorded. Maybe it's because of the color of the sand? They're wide, lush, and long, making them perfect as a base for your wavy needs. We were so tempted to try them out that we also ended up with a few designed variations. #blacksandbeach
Geothermal Activity
Iceland is almost synonymous with geysers, hot springs and volcanic activity. Although the tourists make it hard to get clean recordings we found a few spots where we were able to catch some very hot nature action. The geyser eruptions are designed though, all our recordings were ruined by people talking. #geothermalactivity
Mocking Bird
The mocking bird is best known for its ability to mimic other birds' and species' songs and sounds. It can also identify individual humans and treat them differently based on whether they see them as a threat. I wonder what the mocking bird thinks about sound designers? #mockingbird
