Whatever you do, DON’T record
The Mare!

That’s the one instruction we gave our five sound recordists before dumping them into the harsh Norwegian wilderness to record trolls, Huldra, the Kraken, water spirits, and anything else whose main job is scaring the living hell out of people.

We’re happy to report that the expedition is over. We’re slightly less happy to report that nobody came back, as you can see in our new film.

On the plus side, nobody has mentioned Pro Tools vs. Reaper at lunch for an entire week, and one SD card was found packed with real folklore recordings. So, from a recording perspective, a complete success! 🎉

Read more about the real folklore recordings below.

The Folklore Recordings

Enter the pack’s hashtag in Soundly’s search to find all sounds.

The Mare

This pack contains the final recordings from the recovered SD card. The Mare’s horrifying screams are the last known trace of our beloved field recordists. DISCLAIMER: Soundly takes no responsibility for any instant vomiting or blindness caused by listening to these sounds. #themare

Folklore Creatures

Surprisingly, our brave recording team managed to capture a wide variety of mythical creatures before their disappearance. Among them: the grunts of forest trolls, the enchanting song of the Huldra, and the Nøkken lurking beneath the surface. If you hear similar sounds while hiking, Soundly recommends leaving the area immediately. #folklorecreatures

Folklore Ambiences

People travel from all over the world to experience Norway’s spectacular nature. It’s all fun and games until night falls and the noises begin. We believe the team used drop rigs for these recordings and wonder why they didn’t when recording The Mare. #folkloreambiences

Alleged Source Recordings

Rumors say the story of the recovered SD card and the missing recording team is a hoax and a marketing stunt. The same rumors claim this pack contains source recordings you can manipulate to design sounds like those in The Mare and Folklore Creatures. Soundly denies these accusations. #allegedsourcerecordings

Norwegian Folk Music

Folk music has deep roots in Setesdalen, where the recording team went missing. Played on traditional instruments, these short melodic phrases, sustained tones and plucks set the right mood for your next Norwegian national romanticism period drama. #norwegianfolkmusic

Folk Music Stingers

If Norwegian folk music and Hollywood horror trailers had a baby, this is what it would sound like. Perfect for when your Norwegian national romanticism period drama turns into a horror flick. #folkmusicstingers
